Prohibition
Prohibition started on January 29, 1919 when the 18th amendment was signed. Prohibition was a time where the manufacturer, transport, and selling of alcohol and other intoxicating drinks was illegal. Being the Americans we are we found way around this. One of these ways was that before Prohibition went into effect, people would buy a ton of liquor because drinking alcohol wasn't illegal, so all stores of alcohol could still be drunk, just not sold. Another of these ways is to get a 'prescription' for alcohol. Many prescription for medical alcohol were created from less than legit sources. The last major was people got intoxicating beverages was through gangs and other illegal sources. One of the most famous of these was Al Capone. He literally ruled Chicago during Prohibition and you can find more information on him below. During the Great Depression of 1932, the government removed Prohibition to create jobs of making liquor.
