The Start of the Great Depression
The Great Depression was the worst economic disaster to date. It all started on October 24, 1929 known today as "Black Tuesday." A record 16 million shares were traded that day with 12.9 million the previous Thursday. This caused hundreds of thousands of people to lose their jobs and even the people who still had jobs had lower wages. Many banks and companies went bankrupt and this caused a nearly 13 year economic hardship.
